Numeracy at Unsworth Academy
Numeracy is a whole-school responsibility. We aim to ensure all students develop confidence, accuracy and enjoyment in using Mathematics.
Numeracy involves problem solving, reasoning, interpreting information, and applying Maths in real-life situations. Our approach supports students in becoming confident, resilient learners who can think mathematically across the curriculum.

Our Whole-School Approach
Numeracy is taught explicitly in Maths lessons and reinforced across all subjects. Teachers identify opportunities to embed Numeracy in each subject so that can students see appreciate the importance of Maths in different contexts.

Sparx Maths
Sparx Maths is an online learning platform that provides personalised homework for all students. Students in all year groups are set weekly homework on Sparx Maths to reinforce learning from lessons and support long-term retention through regular retrieval of key skills.
Homework is tailored to each student, with every question including a support video to promote independent learning. Students have a full week to complete their homework and are encouraged to complete tasks early so that teacher support can be accessed if needed.
Sparx Maths is also used to support independent learning and revision. Weekly leaderboards are shared to recognise and celebrate achievement across all year groups.
